Production & project management

EMP can manage a production or installation from planning through closeout. That includes the schedule, budget, crews, suppliers and the decisions needed to keep work on track.

  • Production schedules, crew handoffs and delivery milestones
  • Staffing and labor plans
  • Vendor coordination and budget tracking
  • Installation coordination, opening readiness and operating handoff
  • Venue and site operations, including extended runs
  • Issue escalation and closeout

Proven at production scale

Rob’s experience includes Cirque du Soleil big top productions with more than 100 containers and 300 people. These shows typically moved every five weeks to about three months. Each move meant dismantling, transporting and rebuilding an entire temporary venue, with the site becoming a new build project in each city.

At Ringling Brothers, his responsibilities included teams of 300 people, two trains, 25 trucks and the movement of both people and animals. Marvel Universe Live! and Jurassic World Live! arena productions each involved approximately 35 trucks and more than 100 people, moving weekly through around 40–45 cities per year.

Sesame Street tours played one-night engagements, with more than 100 dates per unit each year and several hundred city engagements across the touring units. Rob also oversaw a small Sesame Street tour that traveled with just five road cases. Its cast and crew flew between cities with costumes, a few props and a curtain backdrop, using venue lighting, sound and local support.

Keeping work moving around the clock meant coordinating teams on different schedules. Rob layered the work so each team could begin as soon as the previous task was finished, planning shifts, breaks and rest periods around those handoffs.

Tour advance & operations support

Well suited to: Expanding tour rosters, additional dates, complex markets and overflow workload.

EMP can take on advance work for a tour or selected markets when your team needs help. Venue requirements, local arrangements and unresolved questions are worked through before the production arrives.

  • Venue specifications, access and local requirements
  • Load-in and show-build coordination
  • Promoter and production team coordination
  • Local labor and vendor planning
  • Freight, travel and market documentation
  • Open-items tracking and early issue escalation
  • Cross-border coordination: permits, customs, immigration and carnets

Multiple tours. One coordinated operation.

At Feld Entertainment, Rob oversaw five concurrent Sesame Street Live tours alongside Marvel Universe Live! and Jurassic World Live!—seven productions moving at the same time, including international units. He also oversaw two simultaneous Ringling Bros. productions, each with more than 300 people, coordinating trucks, trains and animals.

Across borders and markets

His work in more than 50 countries includes licensing, permits, customs, immigration and carnets. EMP brings that practical experience to freight, travel, venue requirements, local labor and the decisions that need resolution before arrival.

Extended-run experiences & installations

Well suited to: Immersive venues, limited runs, seasonal sites, semi-permanent installations and permanent experience projects.

  • Installation schedules and site coordination
  • Staffing, vendor and venue-service planning
  • Opening readiness and operating procedures
  • Ongoing site operations and issue resolution
  • Operating handoff, transition and removal planning

Built to open. Prepared to keep running.

Rob’s Cirque du Soleil engagements could remain in one market for up to six months, combining major installation work with sustained site operations. As VP of Operations for Immersive Experiences, he also led transportation, load-in, launch and ongoing operations for the months-long Perceptual Experience in Chicago.

Launch & multi-site
project support

Well suited to: new locations, field operations, business launches, expanding teams and operating transitions.

  • Scope, schedule, resource and budget planning
  • Workforce planning, recruitment coordination, onboarding and backup coverage
  • Vendor, partner and cross-functional coordination
  • Repeatable operating plans, documentation and reporting
  • Logistics review, cost control and process improvement
  • Launch readiness, operating handoff and lessons learned

One show. Two continents. Different infrastructure.

At Cirque du Soleil, Rob managed a relocation from Perth, Australia, to Antwerp, Belgium, via Amsterdam using two 747s. The tent, generators, bathrooms and bleachers stayed in Australia.

The equipment was loaded onto trucks at the Perth site and driven to the airport, where it was transferred onto airline pallets for the flights to Amsterdam. After arrival, it was unloaded from the aircraft, removed from the airline pallets and loaded onto semi-trucks for the drive to Antwerp.

In Antwerp, the team unloaded and installed the show in a European tent three meters smaller in diameter than the one in Australia. The setup required modifications to fit that smaller space and meet the stricter local regulations and touring requirements.

The move required freight planning, coordination between locations and a build schedule that accounted for different site infrastructure—the same work involved in preparing a new location or transferring an operation.
